In Iron Man 2 Tony Stark is attacked while (unadvisedly) driving a racecar. Fortunately his trusty chauffeur and Pepper Potts are there to save his bacon and bring him his special briefcase which transforms into a portable Iron Man armor. While you have to admit this stretches credibility (the lightness, flexibility and durability of the materials and electronics would have to be astounding - but hey it's a comic book action movie :-) it is nevertheless totally awesome. I love the more mechanical look and differing color scheme that differentiates it from the other armors - plus it makes a cool briefcase. So does the Hot Toys version hold up?
I will admit to a little bit of initial let down when peeling this guy out of the box but this is because I cut my teeth with Hot Toys on other Iron Man suites and those had working flaps, opening compartments, working countermeasure systems, missile launchers, shoulder guns, etc. But it's not Hot Toys fault this suit does not...
Bit overpriced but oh well, its a collector's item!
The packaging was great.... everything was properly fitted in and was trilled to take the Iron Man Mark V out of the plastic shell. I was surprised with the size, from the pictures I thought it would be smaller but its quite tall, 30cm. A FINE piece of work, delicately created and was so scared at first that I would break something that took me awhile to play around with the movements and changing of parts. I was bit annoyed with the instruction manuel - wish it was explained bit better. You can do many different poses and looks good from every angle. There are two stands - one black standard and the other bigger (for complex poses) and has lights at the bottom sides (batteries not include and requires three AAA batteries). Even though this is a "mass produced collector's item", .... and I thought the price is bit too much (by the way, Amazon had the best deal- cheapest), I must say that the art work and detail to each part are impressive. The battle damage parts are great. The cuffs...
Pretty good - but be careful!
Pros: Looks great, poses great. Construction is only OK (see below). More slightly built / smaller / "form fitting" than other models. Accurate portrayal of the suit seen in the film, very very detailed. Comes with 2 stands.
Cons: FRAGILE, especially the hands and the backplate/flap behind the hands. Lights in the hands are so bright the light shows through the backs of the hands. Light in the head for the eyes "leaks" out in a gap in the back of the head. Could have used some more range of motion in the hands or wrists.
NOTE: When I took mine out of the box, the small plastic strip preventing the light in the head from turning on was jammed into the neck, was difficult to get it out. At first I thought the light didn't work at all until I saw the plastic strip had been squished down into the neck.
Overall: Very very nice model, but you need to treat it with kid gloves - it's not a toy. Be careful w/the hands.
